Handouts: * [Short Story Elements for “Zlateh the Goat”] from yesterday Homework: * Read your AR book 20 – 30 minutes and record on chart Assignments due: * How many examples did we find yesterday in “ Zlateh”?

2 Today’s Goal: Finish reading and analyzing a story related to Hanukkah.
Outcomes: Analyze literary elements in the short story, “Zlateh the Goat” (pp. 128 – 134). Identify two examples of personification. Identify examples of alliteration. Name two types of conflict in “Zlateh the Goat.” Determine the theme of “Zlateh the Goat” and support your answer with evidence.

3 Starter #1: Who can summarize what we read yesterday in “Zlateh”? Let’s start with the setting and characters. In what way is the setting significant to this story? Or is it? Let’s come back to that question after we have read the whole story As we continue to read, ask yourself, “What truth was the author trying to convey to his readers through this story?” In other words, what is the theme? Turn in your Lit book to “Zlateh,” somewhere past p.128. [Finish with a discussion at the end of the story, particularly about the theme.]
