Business AP Market Trend
Centralized AP management is the trend in enterprise market Individual managing APs is time-consuming and error-prone for larger networks Customers are tend to use software-basic controller to manage their APs in the future. © Infonetics Research: Wireless LAN Deployment Strategies: N. Business AP Market Trend
Tunnel mode is the bottleneck when used in controller In the past few years, the major key feature of wireless business solution is to build proprietary tunnel such as CAPWAP tunnel from AP to controller for data transmitting and AP management. However, when wireless trend shift to 11n dual band, 11AC, these high speed APs will cause controller as bottleneck since all wireless traffics will go through the tunnel to the controller, thus, the trend is to use bridge mode instead of tunnel mode. Each 11AC APs generate up to 1750Mbps data rate loading to controller. Switch Hardware Controller Router/Firewall All wireless traffic go to controller through proprietary tunnel.

Business AP Market Trend
11ac AP is the main stream in business AP market Dual band AP will become more popular because more and more mobile devices have dual band Wi-Fi built-in. 2.4GHz single band is also too narrow because it only has three non-overlapping channels.(5GHz has 23 non- overlapping channels.) Unlike the previous 11g to 11n transition, the 11ac transition is faster because the price gap between 11ac AP and 11n dual band AP is minor. Band 2.4 GHz 5 GHz Channel 3 non-overlapping channels 23 non-overlapping channels(19 in EU) Standard 11b,11g and 11n 11a,11n and 11ac Interference Higher Lesser

Guidance For Central WiFiManager
The difference between software controller and hardware controller Networking infrastructure of software controller Software controller supports bridge mode only, hardware controller vendor claim they can support tunnel mode or bridge mode. However, bridge mode is the main stream and almost all customers may choose bridge mode now because tunnel mode will cause controller to be the bottleneck. Btw, we also can say the benefit of bridge mode which can share the wireless loading to existed wired network. Tunnel mode Bridge mode All wireless client’s traffic and management traffic will go to controller Only management traffic will go to software or hardware controller hardware controller Software or hardware controller

Guidance For Central WiFiManager
What happened if software controller crashed? All APs will stop service? When AP loses controller connection, actually, it only impacts three functions, auto RF management, user authentication roaming and Pass Code. The configuration file is still saved in AP side, so there is no problem on other functions. Of course in controller side all APs will become offline and no new record from AP side, but APs still can work normally. Regarding Auto RF management, it needs controller to gather information from all APs, it can’t work if controller crashed. User authentication roaming means user can roaming without re-authentication if no idle timeout. It also needs controller to communicate with APs. If controller crashed, user needs to re- authentication if roaming from one AP to another AP. The controller redundant feature will be ready, before that the backup solution we offered is database backup. Customer has to backup the Central WiFiManager database, once the original controller crashed, just install an new controller and import the backup database, all configuration and data will be restored. The Pass Code is one type of user authentication, user can enter pass code in login page to get the permission to access Wi-Fi network. Because the pass code is generated by CWM server, if the connection between AP and CWM server break, the authentication will also fail.
