Circumcision In Turkey
2
Circumcision is performed on about 1/7th of the world's male population.
3
A boy who will be circumcised is called Sünnet Çocu ğ u (Child of Circumcision).
4
Circumcision is performed in Turkey for religious reasons.
5
The advantages and disadvantages of circumcision have been debated for centuries.
6
There are no specific rules for determing the best age and time for the ceremony but children are usually circumcised before they start school or when they go to primary school.
7
On the day of the event, the boys dress in white and red ribbons
8
And they decorate donkeys or cars for the ceremony.
9
When the circumcision is completed, the young boy's "status" changes… Ribbons removed He receives compliments and gifts.
10
They hold escort like kings on lavishly decorated beds
11
Its appropriate to give a Cumhuriyet Altını(Gold Coin) or as a gift to the boy in accordance to your relationship with him or his parents.
12
On the day of circumcision, guests come together and chant Mevlit and eat a meal while waiting for the arrival of the circumcised boy.
13
They offer candies to guests
14
Outfit and clothes are bought by his father.
15
A few days before the circumcision ceremony, he visits his relatives and neighbours in his circumcision outfit and kisses their hands and every person whose hand is kissed customarily gives money to the boy.
16
During the circumcision ceremony the boy will have beside him a Kirve.
17
. The circumcision hat is blue to protect him from evil eyes.
18
In front of the hat a ribbon with the inscription Ma ş allah(Wonderful, May God avert the evil eye) is placed.
19
It is common to hear Oldu da bitti Ma ş allah (Well, it is all over and done) or Allahuekber (God is the greatest)
20
People used to have longer (a week or more) and more funny ceremonies for the boy, that s just because people used to have more joy and live in smaller places.
22
Ceremonies were longer because it was made at home not in hotels or ceremony halls and it didnt require much financial things. Other thing is that boys were and still are precious for the family, as they represent familys future.
23
THIS IS ALL ABOUT CIRCUMCISION,THANKS FOR WATCHING.
