Our Purpose To assure that parents and students are aware of the benefits and expectations of taking a high school course while in middle school. To ensure that the High School Course Advisement Form is completed by both parents and students. Inform parents and students that the deadline to request a withdrawal from an accelerated course is Aug 31st.

High School Courses Taken by Middle School Students
What does this means for my student: Students who successfully complete a high school course in middle school shall receive a high school credit. The grade earned will begin the students high school GPA and remain permanently on their transcript.

End of Course Exams Algebra 1 EOC Geometry EOC Biology EOC
30% of final grade Must pass to graduate 30% of final grade If a student passes the Algebra or Geometry course, but fails the EOC, the student must retake the EOC over the summer. If a student does NOT pass the Algebra or Geometry course, but passes the EOC, the student will earn the graduation credit and will not be required to retake the EOC. It is HIGHLY recommended that these students retake the course through FLVS or DVIA to increase the high school GPA…as this will be the first course on the student’s high school transcript.

Advisement Form A middle school student’s enrollment in a high school course is contingent upon the student meeting eligibility and procedural requirements, as outlined in the Duval County Student Progression Plan. High School courses taken in middle school: will appear on the high school transcript, will award high school credit if a final grade of D or higher is earned, will count in BOTH the unweighted and weighted high school Grade Point Average (GPA), (only Honors level courses are weighted), will count towards the Bright Futures Scholarship eligibility and the Bright Futures Grade Point Average (GPA) when applicable, and will count towards college admissions.
