Are Rechargeable batteries better than traditional batteries?
Topic Are Rechargeable batteries better than traditional batteries?
3
Why did we choose this topic?
We decided to go for batteries as our topic because it is an essential part of our daily life, and yet we know very little as to how it works and what they are exactly.
4
The chemical energy converts into electrical energy
First let’s start off by a brief summary as to what batteries are in the first place. Batteries are a power source in which one or more cells´s chemical reaction that creates a chain of electrons to power a circuit. The chemical energy converts into electrical energy
5
EXPERIMENT We bought an electric fan which requires 3 volts which is the exact energy output as 2 AA battery cells. We soldered a battery cartridge to the fan after our experiment with the rechargeable battery.
6
Expectations To establish which one is greater based on price, power wise and the duration for each batteries. To have a fair test in which we can receive the most reliable data. To have a stronger understanding of batteries. To enhance our team working skills and time management.
7
Experiment We decided to compare both rechargeable and traditional cells. We decided to use a portable electric fan to carry out our experiment. We checked the electric fan every 20 to 30 minutes and had a camera record it to see exactly what time the battery had stopped working This experiment was repeated twice.
8
Traditional Rechargeable
Experiment 1:Lasted a total of 1 hour and 12 minutes Experiment 2:Lasted a total of 1 hour and 10 minutes The batteries speed hadn’t decreased during either experiments. However the fan did turn itself off showing that the battery life had ended, yet when we pressed the on button once more it functioned for 34 more seconds before completely shutting down, showing signs its that its battery life may have been longer. Experiment 1:lasted a total of 51 minutes and 16 seconds Experiment 2:Lasted a total of 48 minutes and 50 seconds. When the batteries have been recharged and placed on the fan once more its speed decreases before the batteries run out of energy
9
Conclusion Based on the results of our experiment we’ve concluded that overall Traditional batteries are more reliable and efficient unlike the Rechargeable which don’t last quite as long as the Traditional batteries and constant recharge will affect the Rechargeable batteries efficiency rate and power output making it overall unreliable in the long run.
