2. New Year Our Third New Year (Lunar) Consider God’s call on our lives
What is He doing? What is our part?
Moses’ call
Our responses when God calls

3. 1. God Sees I have seen … I have heard … I know (v 7)
Important: God is acting to solve the problems
He is always at work (John 5:17)
His way. His timetable.

4. 2. God Saves “I will deliver them” (v 8)
Fits in with our study of salvation (Eph. 2:13)
His great Mercy, Love, Grace (Eph 2:4-5)
How does he act to save?

5. 3. God Speaks God speaks to Moses
He appeared to him in a flame of fire (v 2)
He doesn’t send a tsunami, a volcano, …
How will this help?
If he returns to Egypt he’ll be arrested (2:11-15)

6. 3. God Speaks … God acts quite subtly
A bush starts burning … not uncommon
Moses notices it is not being consumed
He had to be attentive in the present!

7. 3. God Speaks … Moses allowed himself to be interrupted by God (v 3)
Only when he investigated, God spoke ( v 4)
We must be attentive in the present
Distraction, noise, demands … make us unavailable

8. 4. God Sends “I will send you” (v 10)
God will save but not by direct intervention
He is going to use Moses
Things in world, city, neighbourhood that need God … are you available?
Jesus: “I am sending you” (Jn 20:21), “Go” (Mt 28:19)

9. 5. Moses’ Response A voice is coming from a strange “fire-bush”
Should inspire him to immediate obedience
He still fears .. Doubts
He had many objections

10. 5. Moses’ Response … Objection 1: I’m nobody (v 11)
(Actually wanted for murder back in Egypt)
God’s encouragement: I will be with you (v 12)
Jesus promises to be with us ((Mt 28:20)
And …. God offers him a sign
After he has done what God commands ((v 12)

11. 5. Moses’ Response … Objection 2: I don’t have the ability (4:10)
God’s answer: I will enable you (v 13)
We cannot look to our own abilities- look to God
Reason: God gets the glory (1 Cor 1:26-29)
We don’t only serve in areas of strength
Be bold

12. 5. Moses’ Response … Objection 3: I don’t want to (4:13)
Please send someone else!
Heroes of the Bible: failed … doubted … sinned
God used them anyway

He invites us into the centre of what he is doing
Each one of us has a part to play.

14. – Living it – Problems Distracted: Build practices to be attentive
You’re Nobody: Perfect, God will be with you
Lack skills: God’s power will be revealed in you
Don’t want to: God was with every Bible hero
