Why this book? Didn’t like my first novel choice 1984 by George Orwell. 1984=complex language I love historical fiction books and TKAM takes place during the time of the Great Depression, 20 years before the civil rights movement The language of To Kill A Mockingbird is more simple.

(Meet her teachers, classmates Burris Ewell)
Summery Part two Mostly deals with Atticus’s involvement during the Tom Robinson trial Basically the trail started due to the fact that Tom Robinson has been accused by Bob Ewell (Burris’s dad) of raping his daughter Mayella As the court rules either guilty or not guilty Bob Ewell still felt embarrassed due to Atticus’ testimony. He gets revenge on Atticus through harming Atticus’ children but is later killed by Boo In the end the children begin to reflect on Atticus’ advice and apply it to the situation of Bob Part one Introduces Scout along with her family Scout introduces the readers to her neighbors (The Radleys, Miss Maude, Mrs Dubois) Scout’s first few years of school (Meet her teachers, classmates Burris Ewell) When the talk about Mrs Dubose came into place Atticus gave his children his most famous advice, “you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them.” Setting: Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930s

Character Analysis of the Protagonist
Atticus Finch Role: father, lawyer and brother Personality: unbiased and craves for justice to be served Motivation: He is willing to do what is right in the Maycomb community Involve in conflict: he defends Tom and is receiving negative comments from the Maycomb community Scout Finch Role: daughter, sister, child, student Personally: Tomboy and childish Motivation: To know what Is going on during the Tom Robinson trial Involve In conflict: her father Is the one defending Tom Robinson. And she has to deal with all of the negative stuff said about her father

Character Analysis of the Antagonist
Bob Ewell Roles: father and the town’s most disreputable man Personally: drunkard, abusive, lazy Motivation: drowns his poverty and reputation with alcohol. He also accuses Tom in order to be a hero in the Maycomb community Change: Becomes violent and revengeful

Points I found enjoyable.
Interesting Plot The character development of Scout and Jem Learning about Scout’s family and neighbors Good background before the plot Learn about respect

Parts I did not enjoy Racial Slurs
Prejudice and hypocrisy of the citizens of Maycomb Ignorance of several characters Bob Ewell’s characterization

YES- I would recommend this novel to future students!
Students will enjoy interesting plot Teaches human value and respect See the 1930s through a different perspective Easy to read Serves as a good piece of Literature for Question 3
