Fig. 1 Results of histamine-release testing of basophils from patient 1 on day 0 and after 3-day culture with IL-3 but without any antibiotics (A ), cells from patient 2 on day 0 (B ), and cells from a normal subject sensitized with serum from patient 1 and patient 2 (C ). Data are mean values of duplicate determinations. aIgE , Anti-IgE; Ca , calcium ionophore A C , Basophils (from a donor of the same ABO blood group as patient 1 or 2) were treated at 4°C for 5 minutes with acetate buffer (pH 3.6) to elute surface-bound IgE, sensitized at 37°C for 2 hours with serum obtained from patient 1 or 2, and then stimulated with SM. Control unsensitized cells or cells sensitized with heated (at 56°C for 2 hours) serum showed no release in response to SM challenge (data not shown). Data are representative of 2 experiments showing similar results. Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology , DOI: ( /mai ) Copyright © 2002 Mosby, Inc. Terms and Conditions
