Animal Facts Description Koalas are mammals there colors include white skin with thick gray to keep warm over the cold winters . Koalas weigh about 20 pounds! Koalas length/height is cm long. Koalas also have a highly developed sense of smell that helps the animal know what eucalyptus leaves are safe to eat. It has claws to grip to eucalyptus trees to get the eucalyptus leaves for its food . Diet koalas are herbivores they eat only leaves and tree bark from eucalyptus trees . They have a special digestive system because the eucalyptus leaves are poisonous to other but doesn't affect the koalas. Its hot and dry so it doesn’t provide much water for the koalas. Life Cycle Koala babies are born in there moms pouch that’s right most mammals have pouches mostly to lay there babies and to give birth. About one baby is born at a time in all , it takes about 35 days to be born in there moms pouch The mom takes care of the babies at least six months until the babies stop drinking there moms milk . You may ask what a young is called well, A young is called a joey it weighs less than one gram! When a joey is born it has No ears , hair ,and it can’t see. Adult koalas live in groups , how big is the group you may ask , well it depends on the gender , age, and social position of the animal within the group . 5 Animal Interactions Koalas communicate in a high Varity of sounds such as growls , grunts, and a load bellow they have some other ones but these are the main sounds they make to communicate with other koalas . You may wonder well how do they protect it self , well Sense the eucalyptus leaves are poisonous to other animals then when a koala is in danger it would go hide in a tree to protect itself sometimes they also use there very sharp claws to protect itself but mostly climb in a eucalyptus tree if in danger. Koalas are not social with other animals and other species ,and don’t visit other koalas a lot. All koala’s predators include dogs , foxes , and dingoes , there are also risks of injury from cars or death.
