1. Math Star Students 4/1-4/5 Literacy Calendar 4/1 – Classes Resume
Our book for the week is “Houses” and the sight words are “by & have”. Please have your child practice reading their sight words at home.
We will begin learning about our community and the people and jobs that work within it.
In Reading Workshop, we will begin a new Unit of Study on Poetry. April is national poetry month and students will listen to poems and their rhythmic flow. They will also practice reading poems during independent and buddy reading.
In Writing Workshop, students will begin the Functional Writing Unit of Study. This unit focuses on writing for a purpose. At this age, students will look at writing lists, recipes, and letters. Students will practice this style of writing during independent writing.

Math
This week we will finish Module 9. Students will be identifying and sorting 2D shapes and 3D solids. They will also use 3D solids to make other structures. They will be looking at the properties of 3D solids and how they can use that information to determine if it can be used on the bottom or the top of a structure.
Students will also spend time this week using toothpicks and play dough to build 2D shapes and 3D solids.
