1 Aimee-Leigh’s Story

2 This is my little sister Aimee-Leigh
This is my little sister Aimee-Leigh. She is 7 years old and is very poorly. She has no diagnosis that tells us what is wrong with her. Aimee-Leigh is a happy, bubbly, smiley, strong girl and never lets anything worry her! She absolutely loves cuddles and is so down to earth. But there is one major problem that needs to be sorted very quickly to help Aimee-Leigh!

3 It all started when Aimee-Leigh seemed to be a 'late developer‘
It all started when Aimee-Leigh seemed to be a 'late developer‘. The doctors said everything was fine but we knew there was a major problem. We knew this because Aimee-Leigh was not able to sit on her own or crawl around like other 3 year olds. Aimee-Leigh started to suffer from epileptic fits, and started to get spasms in her legs. Many tests were done but no diagnosis was made. She was referred to many hospitals where she was having different tests and scans: on her brain, legs, arms and other parts of her body. Nothing seemed to show up.

4 As Aimee-Leigh started to grow up, we still didn’t know what was wrong with her, the pain was getting worse and worse and her legs and feet were getting stiffer and stiffer. Her legs got so bad that the doctors suggested they should put both of her legs in plaster casts for 6 weeks to see if this would help to straighten them. This did not work and left Aimee-Leigh in constant pain like before. Aimee-Leigh has to wear shoes with splints on 24/7 to help her feet and to help her walk straight.

5 Aimee-Leigh’s biggest dream is to get better
Aimee-Leigh’s biggest dream is to get better. To help Aimee-Leigh to reach this dream we need to get her to America to John Hopkins’ Hospital where they can perform tests to find out what is wrong with her. To do this we need to raise £20,000 for the special tests and treatment that she can have over in Baltimore, America.

6 My family and I work as hard as we can to organise fundraisers to raise money for my poorly little sister, so she can use her legs properly. So far we have raised £9,000 with events such as: tombolas, raffles, cake sales, and family nights out with special guests joining us, such as lookalikes of famous people, and people willing to shave their heads for her. £7,000 of funds raised was used for  an important extension on the house to provide Aimee-Leigh with a wet room and her own mobility bedroom so she can do things independently.

7 There is a link on the Grove School website that explains what the Grove School staff are going to do. On Friday 08 December there will be a non-school uniform day to raise money for Aimee-Leigh to help to get her to America. Only £1 is needed for you to take part and help Aimee-Leigh. All donations are welcome. The School Ambassadors will be going round at tutor time to sell bands with the logo 'FALL' on which represents the charity name 'Fix Aimee-Leigh’s Legs‘. There is a ‘go fund me’ website where donations can be made (link below) to support Aimee-Leigh.
