Character and Setting Characters are the people in a story. You can learn about characters by noticing what they say and do and by noticing how they interact with other characters. The setting is the time and place of a story.

Loses his temper easily and acts demanding. What does the king do? Acts silly by thinking he can make better soup than the Cook when he doesn’t know anything about cooking.
