2. UN Resolution 242 – land occupied by Israel during the Six Day War would be exchanged for peace if Arab nations recognized Israel’s existence. * Israel refused to withdraw and Arab nations refused to recognize the Jewish state.

3. Camp David Accords (1978) Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin signed treaty – Israel agreed to return the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt – Egypt recognized Israel as an independent nation.

4. Oslo Accord (1993) Israel’s Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat met in Norway. Israel agreed to withdraw from occupied territories and give Palestinians self rule in Gaza and the West Bank.
