2 The four sentence structures
Simple- a sentence consisting of only one clause, with a single subject and predicate. Compound- a sentence with more than one subject or predicate. Complex- a sentence containing a subordinate clause or clauses. Compound-Complex- a sentence having two or more coordinate independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses. What are these?

3 Simple Sentences A simple sentence is a sentence containing ONE clause with a single subject and predicate.

4 Examples of Simple Sentences
The dog barked. I like steak. I went running. The soup is cooking.

5 Compound Sentences A compound sentence is a sentence with more than one subject or predicate.

6 Examples of Compound Sentences
I went to the doctor, and they told me I was sick. I had soup, and a grilled cheese. I love running, and swimming.

7 Complex Sentences A complex sentence is a sentence containing a subordinate clause or clauses.

8 Examples of Complex Sentences
She returned the computer after she noticed it was damaged. This is the exact spot where the atomic bomb was first tested. After twenty years, he still had feelings for her.

9 Compound-Complex Sentences
A compound-complex sentence is a sentence having two or more coordinate independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.

A compound-complex sentence is a sentence having two or more coordinate independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.

11 Compound-Complex Examples
We decided that the movie was too violent, but our children, who like to watch scary movies, thought that we were wrong. Even though he prefers to eat with a fork, he chooses to use chopsticks in Chinese restaurants; however, they aren't easy to use.
