3 What is a physical disability

4 How does a physical disability affect a person
Physical disabilities can affect a person's capacity to communicate, interact with others, learn and get about independently. Neurological: affecting a person's ability to control their movements.  Physical: affecting mobility and/or a person's ability to use their upper or lower body. How does a physical disability affect a person

5 What are some examples of a physical disability
Physical disability is a limitation on a person's physical functioning, mobility, dexterity or stamina. A person may be born with a physical disability or acquire it later in life through accident, injury, illness or side effects of medical treatment. Some examples of physical disability include: Cerebral palsy Brain and spinal injuries Spina bifida Muscular dystrophies What are some examples of a physical disability

6 How can we help people with physical disabilities

7 How can we help people with physical disabilities
Some specific ways you may want to help include: understanding the disability and how you can help regularly checking for household hazards, such as loose rugs installing aids such as hand rails, ramps and a raised toilet seat if needed arranging help from occupational and physiotherapists finding support such as counselling or support networks finding services that provide home maintenance and modifications encouraging the person you are caring for to be as independent as possible. 8 How can we help people with physical disabilities
Looking after yourself learn the correct way of transporting or moving someone so you don't cause injury to the person with the disability or yourself aids such as electronically powered wheelchairs and hoists might help. take regular time out (respite) for yourself. talk to others about how you feel. join a career support group or seek counselling if you need it. be realistic about what you can and can’t do know the signs that you’re becoming stressed and have a plan for when this happens understand your legal and financial rights.
