1
Warm Ups: Give the degree, standard form, and leading coefficient (if possible): 1) 3x3 – 5x4 – 10x ) 9x – 8 + x2 Factor completely: 3) 4x2 – 21x – 18 4) 16k2 – 92k + 60

Polynomial Operations
4.2 Notes Polynomial Operations
3
Add/Subtract Exponents do not change Combine like terms!
(4x3 – 3x2 + 2x) + (2x2 + 6x3 – 3x) (x2 – 2x + 5) – (4x2 – 2)
4
Multiplying…. Exponents add together!
Distribute ALL parts on the left to ALL parts on the right! -4y2 (3y3 + 2y2 – 4y + 8) (2x + 1)(3x + 2) (x2 + 3x + 5)(x – 4) (m3 – 2m + 1)(2m2 + 4m + 3)
5
Special products…. Remember difference of perfect squares?
X2 – x2 – 25 So, when you see that factoring pattern you can “short cut” the multiplication: (p – 4)(p + 4) (4x + 3)(4x – 3) (6s – 7)(6s + 7)
6
What if there is more than two sets?
(m – 1)(m – 2)(m + 3) (2x – 5)3
7
HW: p. 170 – 171 #3 - 30
