Turbulent 60’s & 70’s - JFK Kennedy’s administration was known as Camelot, due to the idealism of his administration, which included his brother Bobby, attorney General. The White House was filled with young “wiz kids” ready to fix all the world’s problems. JFK: Camelot and hope

Turbulent 60’s & 70’s - JFK The New Frontier was JFK’s plan to
revitalize America. It focused on the economy, social justice, and winning the cold war. He cut taxes to stimulate the economy, empowering consumers and encouraging investment. U.S. involvement in Vietnam began the policy of “flexible response” (having a variety of military options ready for all types of incidents). JFK was publicly supporting the corrupt government.

Turbulent 60’s & 70’s - JFK Ties between Fidel Castro
(Communist, Cuban dictator) and the Soviets made Cuba a direct threat. JFK approved an invasion using an army of Cuban exiles. The operation (Bay of Pigs) failed miserably, angering Latin countries and humiliating the U.S. Bay of Pigs

Turbulent 60’s & 70’s - JFK The Cuban Missile Crisis was initiated
when the Soviets attempted to supply Cuba with Nukes. Khrushchev wanted the weapons in Cuba since the U.S. placed missiles in Europe. Kennedy demanded all missiles be removed and blockaded the island. After a two week naval stand off the Soviet ships returned home. Cuban Missile Crisis

Turbulent 60’s & 70’s - JFK Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Baptist minister. He founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) which promoted non-violent protest. He became the voice and moral conscience of the Civil Rights Movement We Shall Overcome

Turbulent 60’s & 70’s - JFK James Meredith represented the resolve it would take to desegregate the south. As an answer to threatened, wide-scale violence, JFK sent 40 federal marshals and 3000 troops to enroll Meredith at the Ole Miss

Turbulent 60’s & 70’s - JFK JFK’s presidency came to
