Station 6- “The Gift of the Magi” Plot Elements p.55 Setting: The story takes place in Jim and Della’s apartment home where Della is agonizing over not having enough money to buy a Christmas gift for Jim. Protagonist- The protagonist is Della. Antagonist- The antagonist is the money situation of the Dillinghams. Central theme- The central theme is that a wise gift is always a gift from the heart or Love is the greatest gift of all Point of view- The story is told from third-person limited point of view. Type of Conflict- There are two major conflicts here: Man vs Society due to the money situation and Man vs Self due to Della’s internal turmoil over buying a gift for Jim. Conflict: Internal conflict happens with Della’s desire to get Jim a gift. External conflict happens with the struggle to make enough money to buy a gift. Patriot Strong!
