Electric Circuits
2
Electric Circuits a continuous path in which electrons can flow.
*continuous indicates that if it is not complete and continuous, electrons will not flow.
3
Requirements? What are the components of a Circuit?
Electrical Energy ie. battery Conducting Wires ie. copper wire Control Device ie. switch Load ie. light bulb *Remember good conductors are metals ie. Copper wire, vs. insulators like plastic/rubber which surround the copper wire to prevent against discharge to the person holding the cables.
4
What do these parts do? Load: converts electrical energy into other forms of energy ie. light bulb, motor, heaters, fans Switch: a device in an electric circuit that controls the flow of electrons by opening (or closing) the circuit On- circuit is closed, electrons can flow Off- circuit is open, electrons stop flowing
5
Conducting Wire: provides a pathway for electrons to flow from one part of a circuit to another Energy Source: provides the electrons for the circuit
