1 Skills being practiced:
Year 8 English Homework Tasks | Term: Summer 1 | Topic: Transactional Writing Instructions: Each week you will complete one piece of homework. This will be either one of the activities below, or revision from your Knowledge Organiser for a test in class. Your teacher will let you know what homework activity you’re doing and when this should be handed in. Skills being practiced: Reading Skills: Show your understanding of what you have read by using quotations and analysing the effect of these on the audience or reader. Writing Skills: Show off your range of vocabulary, your understanding of grammar and your ability to write creatively. Research Challenge: You will need to use a computer or a library to help you find the information needed to complete this task. Homework activity: Read again a piece of extended writing that you have completed during lesson time or for homework. Use a reflection sheet and improve one paragraph by acting on the comments from your teacher or from your own self-assessment. Write a speech to argue for something which you’re passionate about. Make sure that you include: A clear address to an audience; Three or four main paragraphs; Rhetorical devices; A clear sign off e.g. ‘Thank you for listening’. Research famous speeches – you may choose to look at Winston Churchill or Martin Luther King. Choose one of these and write two paragraphs to explain why these speeches were famous. Don’t forget to check your spellings and word choice by using your Gem when completing your homework. These are available to buy on Parent Pay or through Mrs Parker, E5.
