Pedagogical Goals Program Goals and Objectives
Increase the number of elementary teachers of mathematics who improve their mathematics content knowledge. (As measured by pre-post tests of mathematics content knowledge administered prior to each Summer Academy and again at the end of the Academy.) Strengthen mathematics instruction. (As measured by: 1. the quality of two formal lesson plans demonstrating application of best practices, inquiry-based strategies, integration with the literacy curriculum, and including technology-based activities; and 2. a project implementation checklist completed by the project director for each teacher, twice during each teacher’s follow-up year.)

Increase the number of teachers who participate in content-based professional development activities. (As measured by teacher attendance and participation records.) Increase by at least 5 percent the mathematics achievement scores of grade 3-5 students whose teachers participate in the project. (As measured by annual academic achievement tests including the MAP test in mathematics.) Create new learning communities within which teacher leaders model good teaching and inquire into their own and one another’s teaching practices. (As measured by the extent to which each participant models mathematics lessons for at least two other teachers and observes and provides instructional feedback to at least two other teachers.) Assist other educational partnerships to adopt or adapt the project model. (As measured by the development and dissemination of a Project Implementation Guide and Professional Development Packet.)
