any notebook an engineer or designer uses to record information during the course of a project.
used as a record of the project process from the challenge statement to the report and reflection phase
a record of ideas, design concepts, calculations, observations and all important work details

3. Guidelines
entries neat and legible, keeping in mind that they are rough notes
enter into your notebook and date all concepts, data and observations using separate headings to differentiate each.
record all information in a systematic, orderly and consistent manner
make your entries brief but with enough detail for someone else to easily understand and duplicate the work you have recorded.
label all sketches, images, photographs, calculations, charts, etc.
treat your Design Notebook as potential portfolio entry or even legal document.
The notebook content should be presented as a chronological history of your activities

4. Guidelines
start entries at the top of the page, and always make successive, dated entries, working your way to the bottom of the page
After completing a page, sign it before continuing to the next page.
Make sure that you record the date of each entry clearly.
Never let anyone write in your Notebook (excluding witness signatures).
Never erase notes. Simply draw a single line through any mistakes or notes that do you may feel are not relevant to the project, then add your initials. Enter the correct entry nearby.

5. Guidelines
supplement your entries with supporting material (e.g., web images, rough notes/sketches written on a separate sheet, printouts and other documentation) but you must affix the material onto a page in its proper chronological location.
always include your own entry describing the supplemental attachment.
occasionally, sources might be too large to attach directly to your notebook. In this case, you can add these sources to an additional file (e.g., design portfolio) maintained precisely for this purpose. However, always remember to clearly write a description of these secondary sources in your notebook.
