Please continue to support your child’s progress in reading by spending a short time daily reading together. Little and often is best and ensure it is a fun activity to look forward to. If your child becomes stuck on a word, encourage them to use one of the self help strategies we use in school. Sound the word out. Use the pictures for clues (the illustrations are very important for teaching children to read). Read ahead and come back to the tricky word. Use your understanding of the story to work out a likely word it could be. If your child is still unsure, help them and praise their efforts. Help your child to be an active reader by discussing the text together. Ask probing questions and connect the story to your own life. A useful guide can be found at the front of your homework books. Please continue to support your child with their home learning. I love seeing the inventive interpretations  Home learning will continue to be sent home every Friday to be returned the following Wednesday for marking.
