2. Why T.I.E.? T.I.E. = Truthful T.I.E. = Transitioning
Avoid plagiarism by crediting the author.
Use MLA citation.
T.I.E. = Transitioning
Never plug a quote into a paragraph without providing information to support the quote.
The information can precede, follow, or surround the quote.

3. “T” is for TAG Tag the information to the end of the quote.
Do: Use if start of quote makes sense when written after previous sentence.
Don’t: Use if quote is awkward without any previous explanation.
Note: Works well when quote almost good enough to stand alone or with dialogue.

4. Tag Example:
Dill’s little lies made him a mockingbird as he mimicked everything around him in order to fit in, but Jem and Scout always looked forward to his visits. “Two days later Dill arrived in a blaze of glory…and he had seen two twins hitched together” and even though they were skeptical of his story, they were too excited to care (Lee 40).

5. “I” is for Introduce Introduce the quote with information.
Do: Use if the start of quote is awkward without previous explanation or it needs link to the previous sentence.
Don’t: Use if it detracts from impact of the quote and watch out for incomplete ideas.
Note: It’s often easiest & frequently utilized.

6. Introduce Example:
Dill’s little lies made him a mockingbird as he mimicked everything around him in order to fit in, but Jem and Scout always looked forward to his visits. They anticipated his arrival and therefore accepted his stories when “Two days later Dill arrived in a blaze of glory…and he had seen two twins hitched together” (Lee 40).

7. “E” is for Embed
Embed information around the quote, both before and after, to balance it within writing.
Do: Use embed the most once capable of mastering the technique & try to blend MLA.
Don’t: Cut out so much of quote that it is not worth quoting or use if not ready.
Note: This is most advanced of three and often best, but okay to use variety.

Dill’s little lies made him a mockingbird as he mimicked everything around him in order to fit in, but Jem and Scout always looked forward to his visits. They were so excited when “Two days later Dill arrived in a blaze of glory… and he had seen two twins hitched together…” that they accepted his stories (Lee 40).
