The Growth Management Act (GMA)
Purpose: To direct growth away from state natural resource areas and concentrate growth to designated fast growing counties over a 20 year horizon Result: Each city must take on a certain number of housing units over a 20 year period The King County Comprehensive Plan outlines how much growth in housing units each city must target

Future Housing and Annexations
Town Center will add 2000 more units. Future housing total with the town center= 3893 Housing Units The 2031 King County Housing Goal for Sammamish= PAA King County goal for Sammamish (over 11 years away, but we are only 287 units away from the target for 2031, not including the annexation

Sammamish Revised Plan 2015-2035
New target adopted by Sammamish, not King County, was increased to 4439 housing units to the year 2035 Now we are only 546 housing units away from the target (over 19 years away) Average permits issued from is 212 per year We are only 2.5 years away from our housing goal in 2035

Population Looking at population growth, Sammamish has grown by 47% since 2006. Year Population of Sammamish ,468 ,098 ,000 (annexation) Total increase of 19,532 since 2006 *data source= US Census Bureau

Are We There Yet? Why did Sammamish greatly increase the housing target given to us by King County without including the Klahanie annexation? What is the growth ceiling and who is deciding this? Who is taking into account if our infrastructure can handle it?

My Hope for the Future Have the council have biannual check ins with the City Manager about how close we are to the target Take a pause in approving new permits for development until this can be reviewed Have the council and city staff work in conjunction to decide what pace and what type of developments will be approved in the future. Start looking now at what measures to take to protect the city from lawsuits from developers and residents once the city reaches its target
