SCHOLARS OF THE FUTURE An Implementation Model for Increasing Diversity in Information Technology
The Scholars of the Future program is a four-year initiative funded by the National Science Foundation in the amount of $750,000 designed to increase the number of underrepresented graduate students and faculty in information technology and computer science disciplines. The Scholars of the Future program will accomplish this goal through a number of initiatives including, but not limited to, lab research experiences, personal advising, faculty mentoring, graduate student mentoring, financial support, and professional development experiences. The Scholars of the Future program is based at Auburn University in the Computer Science and Software Engineering Department in the College of Engineering. The program will be replicated at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the Computer Science Department in the College of Engineering in Years 3 and 4 of the grant period. The Scholars of the Future program includes a comprehensive evaluation component and assessment plan designed to produce data to inform faculty, student affairs professionals, and higher education administrators interested in recruiting and retaining diverse and underrepresented graduate students and college faculty.
