Describe the setting of the story. What is the date? How do you know this? What is ironic about the discussion of Mortimer’s job? What point is the author making? Use context clues to determine the meaning of the word “Cuckoo”. When Teddy shouts “Charge!” and runs up the stairs, the stage directions say, “the others pay no attention to this.” What is the significance of this stage direction? Based on the information available so far, characterize one of the sisters, Martha or Abby. Use a direct quote from the script to support your characterization.
