Microsoft 365 Business is the primarily plan for SMBs under 300 users.
The plan builds on top of the Office 365 Business Premium offering, and adds device management and security features that target key scenarios for small and medium business customers.
Microsoft 365 Enterprise plans are ideal for customers who have advanced device and threat management needs, or with seat counts above 300 users.
Enterprise plans are available in both E3 and E5 options, and include Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise, plus Enterprise Security and Mobility.

In the April 2018 update the features listed in blue were added to Microsoft 365 Business at no additional charge
To help bolster your defenses against phishing, malware, and viruses, Microsoft 365 Business now includes advanced protection from cyberthreats, including:
Sophisticated scanning of attachments and AI-powered analysis to detect and discard dangerous messages.
Automatic checks of links in to assess if they are part of a phishing scheme and prevent users from accessing unsafe websites.
Device protection to prevent devices from interacting with ransomware and other malicious web locations.
To help you protect your sensitive business data, the following capabilities were added to Microsoft 365 Business:
Data loss prevention policies to identify, monitor, and protect sensitive information such as social security and credit card numbers.
Information protection in Outlook to manage access to sensitive data in s. For example, you can set encryption rules to prevent an from being forwarded, copied, or pasted into other programs.
archiving and preservation policies to help ensure data is properly retained with continuous data backup and compliance.
The ability to enforce BitLocker device encryption on all Windows devices to help protect against data theft or exposure if a protected device is lost or stolen.

For many SMB customers using Office 365 E3, Microsoft 365 Business provides an alternative that provides a broader set of security and compliance capabilities.
One of the primary reasons that Office 365 E3 might still be the preferred option here for some environments is that it includes the ability to use the office apps in a shared environment such as Remote Desktop Services.
This is not a capability that is included with Microsoft 365 Business.

For customers with specific requirements that can’t be met wit the Microsoft 365 Business plan, the Enterprise plans offer different capabilities.
Some of the different capabilities that are included with the E3 or E5 plans can be used in conjunction with a Microsoft 365 Business plan.
The E5 plan includes a number of additional capabilities, and is especially relevant for customers requiring the highest level of support for their security and compliance requirements.

This table highlights some of the Office 365 add-ons that can be used in conjunction with Microsoft 365 Business.
The main thing to note with this list is that Microsoft 365 Business can’t be paired with Phone System and Calling Plans that are available for E3 plans, but that other add ons can be used.
It’s also worth noting that due to the included value of the Microsoft 365 Business plan, it acts as a good starting plan that add-ons from the Office 365, Windows or Enterprise Mobility and Security can be added to.
