1 2. How present a PPT

2 Timing There could be two kinds of show:
Short 5min Long 20min The general problem usually is that you talk long than expected. The solution is to do the rehearsal before the show Must be real, loud talking, not the silent mumming At least practice one time, countdown the time May ask friends as audience

3 General guidelines 1-2 slides/min.
Statement slides: < 3-5 major points / slide Graph / table slides: concentrating on one point. Speak loud. Dress code.

4 Greetings Formal Greeting (“ Good morning/afternoon, ladies and gentlemen”) Introduce yourself (briefly) The subject of your presentation in an interesting way.

5 How to present the “outline”
Preview the points you will cover in your speech (“In this presentation, I will outline/discuss/highlight…”) < 3-5 major points Do it slowly.

6 Outline The need for high temperature sensor
Sensor fabrication on turbine blade High temperature sensor measurements Conclusion and Summary An example of an outline in the PPT, the title of the PPT is: High Temperature Embedded Sensor Built on Aero-engine Turbine Blade

7 How to present the “B” in ABA?
B = Body of the speech Prepare three to five major points on your topic. Explain each point and give supporting information (examples, data, etc) When you move on to the next point, tell the audience. Use the following expressions: “Now let’s move to my first point, …”

8 The transition… “My second point concerns the …”
“Having discussed the economic and financial aspects, I now want to discuss the social implications”

9 Embedded sensors on turbine blade
Thickness variation of the deposited Pt film Name, The title, X and Y, The main conclusion,

10 Conclusion Give a brief summary of the body of your presentation(“In this seminar, I have discussed…”) Make some general statements about your topic, (it’s importance or why you chose it)

11 QA Finally, ask the audience “Now, are there any questions?” “Please feel free to ask me any questions.” “At this point, I would be happy to answer your questions.” When you are asked a question, listen carefully. Avoid the temptation to interrupt.

12 Make a pose for your QA. You may take a moment to think before answering. You can comment on a question before you actually answer it. e.g. “That’s a very interesting question…” “ Well, as I said in my speech…” “ I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to your question. Can you say again?
