Loudoun county public schools World languages and cultures

2 What is the Seal of Biliteracy?
The Seal of Biliteracy is an award made by the Virginia Department of Education or local district to recognize a student who has attained proficiency in English and one or more other world languages by high school graduation.  The Seal serves to certify attainment of biliteracy for students, employers and institutions of higher education. It is a statement of accomplishment that helps to signal evidence of a student’s readiness for career and college, and for engagement as a global citizen.

3 When and How can I earn this Award?
To meet the level of language proficiency required for the Seal, students should begin the study of a language in grade 7. This will provide them with the time needed to build their literacy skills in the language being studied. The Seal is available for French, German, Latin, Spanish. While in high school, students must take a State approved proficiency exam. Each November, LCPS offers the State approved Credit through Testing(CTT) exam, for 18 languages, free of charge. Students may take the exam twice, while in high school.
