Effect of Substrate Concentration on the Rate of Reaction Using Catalase By: Sam, Christiane, and Kayla

2 PICOT Question In catalyzing H2O2 does the substrate concentration (1.5% vs 3% vs 6%) seed up the rate of catalyzed reaction over 200 sec?

3 How Did We Do This? We conducted this experiment by adding 12 mm of hydrogen peroxide, different concentration of hydrogen peroxide, to a flask and adding 3 drops of catalase to the amount of hydrogen peroxide. Directly after placing three drops of catalase into the flask, place the stopper into the flask to contain pressure, set on the stirring plate that is set to setting 7, and start collecting results on logger pro. You repeat this process three times in three different trials. One trial is testing 1.5% concentration, the second tests 3% concentration, and the third tests 6% concentration.

4 Results Our hypothesis stated that an increased concentration of substrate will result in an increased reaction rate with catalase. However, the results revealed that it was actually a decreased substrate concentration will result in an increased reaction rate with the catalase.
