SS5 Can you convince phone manufactures to make eco-friendly phones? Make a film or plan a talk to convince them Students work alone or in pairs to use SS5 to help them to plan their communication – most suitable are a video presentation or talk – for the audience of smartphone manufacturers. They will need to include information to: persuade manufacturers of the necessity of making changes convince them that these changes are possible convince them that people will be keen to buy their phones so that their business will continue to be profitable. why they must make eco-friendly phones. how they can make eco-friendly phones. Remember: The manufacturers need to know they will sell their phones! 2 2

SS4 Your communication should include: Scientific information about: the consequences to people, the environment and money of not changing how we make, use and dispose of smartphones. the properties and advantages of alternative materials for your chosen phone component(s). Argument and evidence State what you want phone manufacturers to do. Support this using the evidence you collected. Students can use SS1 to help them to plan their communication. More information about each type of communication can be found on the communicate thinking guides, available on the web page. Examples of each type can also be found on the Eco-phone webpage on the Engage website. Students should then have access to the presentation in order to download the communicate ideas thinking guide for the type of communication they have chosen to prepare. Use the Communicate ideas guide to help you plan.
