Reading / Language Arts Mrs. Stafford
Students will be given a 9 weeks AR goal based on their STAR test every 9 weeks. They will earn two test grades in the grade book at the end of each 9 weeks. One grade for percent of goal earned and the other for test average earned for all tests that 9 weeks. We will have weekly meetings where I visit with each student and record on their note their progress towards their goal. At the end of the 9 weeks there will be a celebration for every student that earns their goal and has 80% or higher accuracy on their overall testing average.

Reading/Language Arts
I encourage nightly reading at home to meet their AR goal. My grades are weighted: Daily work=40% in the grade book. Test and quizzes =60% in the grade book. This is to reflect whether the student truly understands the skill we are working on. We will work on various novels this year and hit the skills they need to be prepared for junior high next year. Above all I hope to have a fun interactive year with reading!!!

Math Mrs. Danner Students are expected to participate in class. We play a lot of games and do hands-on activities. We will use an interactive notebook and students are expected to follow along. Typically, there will be 2-3 graded assignments per week. Class time is given to complete assignments, but if they are unfinished, they will go home for homework. Work is expected back the next day and will be considered late, or will go in the grade book as a missing assignment. Students need to ask questions during class and study hall to receive clarification on their assignments.

Science & Geography Miss Maples
6th Grade Geography covers the Western Hemisphere. Students will have a geography CRT in 7th grade. Each child will participate in the Engineering Fair. This will be done completely at school. They build a roller coaster out of piping insulation and see how far they can get their marble to travel. WE will have a contest between all 6th graders here. The winner will spend the day at the district contest and compete against other schools. In Science we will do a lab, or two, with every unit. I will often need supplies donated for these labs. If you can help we would appreciate it. Students will not have science and geography books checked out to them. Science books can be accessed online(see my website) and geography books can be checked out as needed. Students will be expected to return them the NEXT morning. We will do a project for each Geography unit. Your child will have 2 weeks to work on this project, including time daily in class. These projects may not be turned in late.
