Literacy
Our book of the week for the next two weeks is “Underwater” and the sight words are “with & not”. Please have your child practice reading their sight words at home.
On Monday we will pack our suitcases, get out tickets and take off on our two week trip to Hawaii! Students will learn about the island, volcanoes, the state flower, pineapples and the state fish: the humuhumunukunukuapua’a.
In Reading Workshop, students will continue in the nonfiction unit. They will be notice how text features such as the table of content, bold words, captions and photographs help the reader learn more information about the topic.
In Writing Workshop, students will be writing about how to catch a leprechaun. We have read a few books on the topic and the students have some creative ideas for how to catch these tricky little
fellows!

This week we will begin Module 9. Students will practice making groups of objects up to 20 that have one more or one fewer. Then they will write the number that is one more or one less. Students will use their number tracks if they need them. We will reinforce this by playing a game that requires students to pull a teen number card and write the number that is one less and one more.
