Objective: How to use powers and exponents in expressions

3 Vocabulary base – in a power, the number used as a factor.
exponent – in a power, the number of times the base is used as a factor. power – numbers written using exponents (represent repeated multiplication).

4 How to write and read powers:
An expression like 2·2·2·2 can be written as the power 24. The base is the number that is multiplied. The exponent tells how many times the base is used as a factor. } The number that is expressed using an exponent is called a power.

any nonzero number to the zero power is 1. any nonzero number to the negative n power is 1 divided by the number to the nth power.
