3. History Founded in 1732 by James Edward Oglethorpe
Located on the Atlantic Coast of North America
Established land between the Savannah and Altamaha rivers
Claimed the rivers as well(was a part of the colony)
Why?
A philanthropic and military enterprise
Would provide the “worthy” poor a new start
Serve as a buffer between Spanish Florida and the English colonies.
