2. Plaster Old way of applying wall material – used up until the 1950s.
Uses lath boards or mesh then layers of plaster to create wall.
Usually very thick – helps with noise reduction and fire resistance
Should be patched and fixed by a skilled professional.
May be very textured or somewhat smooth

3. Drywall
Since drywall has layers of paper on the outside, what are some potential problems?
Large sheets of pressed gypsum between layers of paper (aka: gypsum board)
Sheetrock is a brand of drywall
Inexpensive material
Easy to repair, can be done by homeowner.

4. Paperless drywall Drywall for wet areas of the home.
Usually used in shower or tub areas and backsplashes in kitchens and baths.
Used underneath tile floors in bath areas
Uses fiberglass instead of paper to combat mold
Also known as blue board, green board, or wet board.

5. Fire-resistant wall board
Gypsum wallboard that is designed to be fire resistant with chemicals and glass fibers.
These are walls to keep fire from moving from one part of the home to another.
Building codes require one in between two homes with a connected wall.
These are lightweight walls
What are other rooms/places where this might be used?

6. Wood Adds warmth to a space Adds texture
Gives a casual feel depending on material or can be sophisticated.
Can have painted or stained finish.

7. Masonry Masonry walls can be brick, stone, or cinderblock.
Is stable and not easily changed.
Expensive
Should be installed by a skilled mason.
Can give a rustic or industrial feel.
Often used on fireplace or to create interest wall or focal point.

8. Acoustic Panels and Soundproofing:
Acoustic panels reduce noise within a space, stop echo
Can be added to existing wall
Soundproofing stops noise from entering or leaving a room
Must incorporate during wall construction
Areas to use would be music rooms, in between bedrooms, bathrooms or playrooms, in shared walls of connected homes
