GOAL: Improve business, government, education, and family institutions; strong government should correct Americas problems
Muckrakers: People that helped bring reform issues to the attention of the American public through investigation and publication

Manifest Destiny: Idea that the U.S. had the divine mission to expand to spread democracy and freedom; frontier is closed by 1890  new frontiers are needed
Social Darwinism: American way of life was superior to others and obligated to spread it to other people; survival of “superior” people
