What to look for….. For Proteins look for NH2 and COOH, the test will not have an “R” For Carbohydrates look for a bunch of OH For Lipids look for long hydrocarbon chains (a bunch of carbons surrounded by hydrogens) For Nucleic Acids look for the 3 parts (a ring sugar, a part that has nitrogen, and a part that has phosphorus) THE ANSWERS TO EACH IMAGE ARE IN THE “NOTES” AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH SLIDE WHEN IT IS NOT IN PRESENTATION MODE.

Nucleic Acid

Lipids- Phospholipid

Protein

Carbohydrate. It doesn’t look like how we would normally see them drawn, but look at the functional groups (-OH).

Protein- showing dehydration synthesis

Nucleic Acid

carbohydrate

Nucleic Acid

Carbohydrate- disaccharide

Lipid- phospholipid

protein

Lipid- triglyceride

Carbohydrate- polysaccharide

Nucleic Acid

protein

carbohydrate

Lipid- just the fatty acid tail

Protein

Nucleic Acid
