One Page Target Planning
Planning with Liberty’s Leadership Teams
2
Learning Target I can summarize what quality instruction will look like in Liberty Middle School by analyzing the brainstorming of my peers to create a one page target.

AQTS-Professionalism
5.3 Participates as a teacher leader and professional learning community member to advance school improvement initiatives
4
The Instructional Core
This is our focus as we begin to look at finalizing our one page target. The IC should stay at the forefront of our thinking and learning.

Why are we here today? Without agreed upon definitions (or at least a clarification of how a person is using the term) and observational data that support the person’s assessment of a lesson, conversations about teaching and learning remain ethereal, reinforcing the teaching profession’s weak craft knowledge base, professional language, and standards of practice. We need agreed upon criteria. Change Leadership, p 38

One Page Instructional Target
Reflection One Page Instructional Target If a school is going to be an Impact School, a school that is passionately committed to dramatically improving professional learning, everyone in the school must have a clear understanding of the goal and how to get there. Simple plans, with clear goals, make it easier for everyone in a school to work together to dramatically improve teaching. Remind the teams of the process from the PD day on Feb. 17th- the lesson assessment (thus, the need for a one page target), the brainstorming in departments, and sharing of their original thoughts.

Gallery Walk A Gallery Walk works just like the name suggests; participants will have the opportunity to view a gallery of works, in this case works created by peers. Take notes and leave Wows or Wonders sticky notes for participants as you view each of the presentations. We will review what all the teachers in Liberty stated should be on the one page target by doing a “Gallery Walk” and using the protocol “Chalk Talk” Assign the following teachers to the following teams and beginning areas. Team one: Gollver, Hartfield, and A. Johnson (Instruction) Team two: Schrimsher, Marcus, and Vess (Assessment for Learning) Team three: Beale, Lyons, Wilhelm (Content Planning) Team four: Adams, L. Johnson, Baker (Community Building and Collaboration)

Chalk Talk Chalk Talk Protocol directions:
Write your responses to the question in silence. You can add to other's responses by: Circling existing text (from someone else) that you find interesting or compelling. You may want to write a note that expands on why you find it interesting. Connecting two ideas that seem related by drawing a line between them. If you think ideas might be related, but you aren't sure, link them with a line and then put a question mark on the line. Circling some text you have a question about and then writing the question next to that idea. Conclude the activity by stepping back to view all of the comments before you move on. We will use the protocol “Chalk Talk” to rotate through the “Big Four”. Teams will need to rotate back to their original section in order to read and analyze the thoughts of everyone.
9
Narrow Down As a team, decide on the “Big 2 or 3” from your assigned section. Choose 2 or 3 for the “Teacher will…” and the “Student will…” Write these on your chart paper to be presented to the faculty. After reading and discussing the thoughts of others, this “team” will narrow down the focus. Give them no more than 12 minutes to narrow the focus and write write on the chart paper their “summary” of what the original departments said and what the teams said through “Chalk Talk”.
10
Team Reports Each group should share and display their “Target”. Each team presents for 2 minutes
11
Agree/Commit On the post it notes, please note your level of agreement and commitment to the target on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the lowest. What is your level of agreement and commitment to this target? Please attach that to the appropriate column. See page. 71 for reference on this chart
12
Next Steps This draft of the target will be presented to the faculty for approval on March 19th.
