1 Student Laboratory and Safety Guidelines
B-1.9 SWBAT: use appropriate safety procedures when conduction investigations.

2 Regarding Emergencies:
Inform Mrs. Poole of ANY mishap when it occurs. Fire Injury Glassware breakage Chemical spills Anything else that could possibly happen Follow teachers instructions in dealing with emergencies.

3 Regarding Your Person No clothing that is loose enough to catch on anything. Avoid sandals and open toed shoes. Always wear safety goggles (not glasses) when using chemicals.-for the whole time! Don’t touch your face. Do not use hair spray just before or during lab work.

4 Regarding Your Person Tie back long hair. Remove loose jewelry.
NEVER eat or drink in the lab. Do NOT inhale vapors or taste, touch or smell any chemicals.

5 Regarding Your Work Read all instructions before you begin a lab activity. Work ONLY on assigned activity. Do NOT substitute any chemicals/substances for those listed in the activity. Do NOT begin until directed. Do NOT handle equipment without permission.

6 Regarding Your Work Do NOT point heated containers-test tubes, flasks- at yourself or others. Storage area is off limits. Handle preserved specimens with respect and only with permission.

7 Regarding Cleanup Keep work areas clean!
Turn off all equipment before leaving lab. Carefully dispose of waste materials specifically as instructed. Wash your hands thoroughly after each lab!
