You should have the educated elite in control. This is important for good government. The use of an electoral college and representative government prevents poor decisions.
A well made government can control itself.
A Bill of Rights is needed to tell the government what it cannot do to the people. The Government cannot guess what they are allowed to do.
The constitution allows too much power in the hands of the president. He will be like a king.
There is a concern that giving up power to a central government outside of your home state is as bad as having another king.
