Herod: The man who would be King
At least 6 different King Herods in the NT. The party that supported Herod was the Herodians. All these Herods stemmed from Herod the Great. Herod the Great 73 B.C. – 4 B.C. (Christ’s Birth). Mentioned only twice in the Bible – Luke 1 & Matt 2. Edomite (Negev) taken over by Maccabees and forced into Judaism. Father Antipas ruler of Israel by Pompey when conquered by Rome. At 26 – Named Governor of Galilee.

Seems to have lost his mind (Miriamme & Sons). Built great buildings: Temple Caesarea by the Sea Antonia Palace Herodium Here the Wise Men came seeking the New King Near death drama (Pregnant Women, Sanhedrin) Fear at his death covered the palace with 65 feet of dirt to make his monument the highest in the land (Not found until 2007)

A Throne and Kingdom that will be established forever – vs (Will you be there?) Even if they sin the Covenant will endure - vs (God’s Grace on Display) David’s House, Kingdom, and Throne will be Eternal – vs (What is your Hope?)
