Discuss the author’s use of figurative language. Identify three examples of figurative language from the novel. Why did the author use these examples? What impact does the figurative language have on characterization, description of setting, mood, foreshadowing, theme, or the novel overall? In your essay, use a different example in each body paragraph. Be sure to explain the significance of each use of figurative language.

7 Character Building Essay #2
A static character is a character who does not undergo any important change during the duration of the story. At the end they are essentially the same person they were at the beginning. The story does not affect any changes in them. In contrast, a dynamic character does undergo change - often very dramatic change -- during the duration of the story. In a well developed essay, answer the following question: Is Scout a dynamic or static character? Use citations from the text to support your answer.

8 SpringBoard 5.20 Dynamic vs. Static Characters ~ Characters experience varying amounts of change over the course of a story. Two types of characters are : • Static characters that do not experience basic character changes during the course of the story. • Dynamic characters that experience changes throughout the plot of a story. Although the change may be sudden, it is expected based on the story’s events. A story’s characters fall within a range—from very static characters that experience no change to very dynamic characters that undergo one or more major changes. In your small group, choose a reporter, discuss the Question Set your group is assigned, and record your answers in bullet-point form with pg. #’s citing your textual evidence.
