Today’s Goals Understand SLO work ahead
Understand the role of SLO’s in the overall OTES rating Understand the SLO and OTES timelines for implementation Read goals
3
What work lies ahead in completing SLOs?
4
SLO Work Ahead 2 SLO’s for next year reflective of schedule.
All Pre and Post Assessments for use with SLO’s must be submitted by June 15th. A Student Growth Committee is being formed to: Approve Assessments (This Summer) Approve SLOs (Next Fall) Some of the SLO Template can be filled in prior to the school year. Please save everything in your SLO folder on the Staff shared Drive 2-4 SLO’s per ODE, but only 2 needed for next year; should reflect majority of your schedule. Can only fill in some parts of SLO template (Interval of Instruction, Standards and Content, Assessment, Can begin to set standard Growth Targets )
5
Refer to SGM packet pages _____
This is the template and checklist combined into one document This will be filled out for each SLO Baseline data is the analysis of your pre-assessment of students. It cannot be filled out until you pre-assess your students in the fall. Trend data is the analysis of this group or other groups of students’ progress over time. You may have trend data if you have assessed your students in a similar method in the past. If not, you would not have trend data next year and should write that. You will have trend data going into year 2.
6
Student Population: Write about # and key demographics of students that impact growth I.E. IEP students, ELL, another other factor that impacts growth Interval of Instruction: How often and for how long does your class/course last Only consider until SLO will end (by early April) so that all information can be submitted to evaluator by May 1
7
Standards & Content: Aligned to CCSS or other state standards Discussion of Big Ideas connected to an assessment framework Assessments: Assessments based on Big Ideas outlined in assessment framework Approved by committee How long is the test, what types of questions, how was it developed How does it provide stretch for all learners
8
Growth Target: Write targets for growth for all students Can be tiered to show different amounts of growth based on pre-assessment data All should be rigorous yet attainable This will eventually transfer into the SLO scoring template Growth targets will originally be set by teams or departments when appropriate
9
Rationale: Describe what led you to make the decisions about why you set the growth targets Aligned to building and district goals (i.e. see OIP—college and career readiness, CCSS, etc.)

SLO 2013-2014 Timeline Fall (August-November) Winter
(December-February) Spring (March-May) Administer & Score Pre-Assessment Instruction Administer & Score Post-Assessment Complete & Submit SLO Template Formative Assessment Complete & Submit SLO Scoring Packet Revise Returned SLO if Needed Mid Point Check (Optional) Attend Final Summative Conference Read through each season
11
Getting to a Category “C” Score
50% SLOs
12
SLO Scoring Template This is the template that will be filled out to score an SLO Fill in background information and student data Add student baseline scores (from pre-assessment) Add growth targets from SLO Add final scores (from post-assessment) If they met growth target = yes If they did not meet growth target = no Calculate % of students that met growth targets (yes’s) to determine overall rating See chart for %’s
13
Combining SLOs to get a SGM Rating
% Growth Growth Rating SLO 1 85% Above Average 4 SLO 2 78% SLO 3 91% Most Effective 5 Average: 4.3 4 Above Average (4) Teacher sill have more than one SLO so this slide shows how to combine the different measures. All SLO’s will be equally weighted. Average the ratings 4.3 average rounds down to 4 4 = above average 2, 3, 4 collapse to be expected growth Rating ABOVE EXPECTED Expected Growth EXPECTED BELOW EXPECTED
14
Expected growth (from previous slide) is applied to the matrix and combined with teacher performance to determine final summative rating
15
Getting to a Final Rating
Teacher Performance Student Growth Final Rating 4 Accomplished Expected Proficient Example: Teacher was accomplished in teacher performance Teacher had expected growth from student growth measures Using the matrix, this give the teacher an overall summative rating of proficient
16
Complete OTES Timeline 2013-2014
Go through the timeline season by season Left column shows teacher performance timeline Right column shows SLO timeline There will be reminders next year of all deadlines and expectations.
17
Together we will get there!
End on a positive note about how we will be supporting everyone through the process Teacher evaluation committee, building representatives, principals, etc. Remember today is only about learning and there will be additional opportunities this summer and next fall to learn even more.
