Why would Henry VIII bestow large amounts of property on the nobility?

The Nobility Tillbrook suggests that there are 6 reasons why Henry VIII bestowed large amounts of property on the nobility. Create a different atmosphere among the aristocracy from that in his father’s reign. Reward loyalty. Ensure control in provincial areas Show his generosity as a king. Ensure he had nobles willing to follow him to war Ensure he had homes if he travelled around the country. Cut and organise in order of importance. Explain/give examples to support each reason. (p97 – top of p99) You now have 2 mins to add to your spider diagram

In preparation for this you need to read AQA p99 – 101 and make summary notes on the issue of regional variation. Try to focus on issues such as….. ????? e.g. importance/significance, potential threat, methods of control, significant events – we will develop the Pilgrimage of Grace next week. Additional research could include economic significance, leading individuals/families, etc
