Proposed Std 180 Standard 52.2 testing
ASHRAE Update Proposed Std 180 Standard 52.2 testing
2
SPC 180 Standard Practice for Inspection and Maintenance of Commercial Building HVAC systems Targeted for government bldgs; public bldgs; schools; above three stories Not targeted for single family residential, industrial, or fabrication facilities Joint effort with ACCA
3
SPC 180 Purpose – establish minimum Inspection and Maintenance points for three goals Acceptable thermal comfort Energy efficiency Acceptable Indoor Air Quality
4
SPC 180 Makes building owner responsible party
Requires inventory of all HVAC components Requires a comprehensive plan for intervals with established minimums Requires documentation of operation Written in CODE language
5
SPC 180 First review was done 2006
Comments were discussed in Quebec City Revisions voted on in Dallas Pre-publish review deadline - 4/30/2007 Will likely go to ASHRAE publishing for 2007 Less than four years since its inception
6
Yes – filter maintenance intervals are in the standard
7
STD 52.2 Two issues of primary interest
Dust Holding capacity Carries with it Arrestance for MERV 1-4 Conditioning Step Post review revisions Working to combine 52.1 and 52.2
8
STD 52.2 MERV 1 - 4 testing There has not been a defined method
Arrestance and DHC language are being brought from 52.1 These values are being defined in 52.2 chart Note : DHC will be reported for all filters MERV 1-16 with a disclaimer that it is not an indicator of filter life in comparing filters –
9
STD 52.2 Conditioning Step with superfines
Science of effects of diminished efficiency Two series of voluntary testing of electrets MERV 16 V-cell MERV 11 four-inch pleat Results from labs were similar
10
STD 52.2 Conditioning Step First review comments discussion in Quebec City June 2006 Revisions made in Jan 2007 – voted to move to publication review ending 4/30/07 Likely to be published by winter meeting
11
STD 52.2 changes in reporting
Conditioning Step will be applied to ALL filters MERV 5-16 electret enhanced fiber or not. DHC will be reported on test document Final Pressure drop requirements will be dropped ie: 0.6” ; 1.0” ; 1.4”
12
Merging 52.2 and 52.1 Procedures are underway to remove the two Standard confusion by converging them 52.2 will add the language needed for MERVs 1-4 52.1 will drop “dust spot” from the Standard
13
STD ?? A more complete evaluation of filter efficiency for end user selection Future – International Standards? USA is currently a small player in this development If adopted could use IPA dipping as Conditioning Step
