Fig 1 Flow diagram of the study population. We first identified adult patients undergoing major abdominal surgery under general anaesthesia from those undergoing surgery in the Departments of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery and Transplantation, and Pediatric Surgery of Kyoto University Hospital using patient age, procedure name, and anaesthetic technique as recorded in the electronic database.
