5. Civil Rights Era Vocabulary
Create a TIM chart for the following vocabulary
Civil Rights - policies designed to protect people against arbitrary or discriminatory treatment by government officials or individuals
Segregation - separation, especially of races
Desegregation (integration) - the act of uniting or bringing together, especially people of different races
Discrimination - to make a difference in treatment on a basis other than individual merit.
Brown vs. BOE - Supreme Court case which led to the eventual desegregation of schools in 1954.
Civil Rights Act of this act banned segregation in public places and created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Jim Crow Laws - laws meant to enforce separation of white and black people in public places in the South.
