1. Word Choice Questions
Skill being used: Identify the reason particular words are used by their connotations
Marks come in PAIRS
Method:
Provide a quoted word from the indicated part of the text
Explain what effect that word has when used

2. Imagery Questions
Skill being used: recognising what imagery is being used, explaining the effect
Method:
State the type of image and what is being compared.
State how the comparison is effective in increasing your understanding of the point being made

3. Link Questions
Skill being used: being able to identify how a writer links ideas together in a text.
Method: (for 2 marks)
Provide a quotation from the text
State how this links to an idea mentioned either before or after the quotation.
(If the question carries 4 marks, provide an additional link in the direction you haven't already written about)

4. In Your Own Words Questions
Skill being used: Being able to interpret information from a text.
Method:
Summarise the Key Points from the part of the text indicated, WITHOUT QUOTING.
One bullet point of information per mark.

5. Context Questions
Skill being used: working out the meaning of an unfamiliar word based on how it is used in the text.
Method:
State what the word means
Explain how its use in the text suggests what it means.

6. Summarising Questions
Skill being used: Being able to identify the Key Points from the WHOLE TEXT in your own words.
Method:
State a piece of important information given
State another important piece of information
(repeat for however many marks are available, one bullet point per mark)
